My boyfriend is very good about cleaning if he is told to do it but he does what seems to me to be a half assed effort. He'll sweep but not care about getting the corners, or the narrow side of the bed. He'll wash dishes but leave half in the sink and not wipe down the counters. He'll mop but not sweep beforehand. He'll step over clothes/yoga mats/obstructions in his way instead of just putting it away. What would make me happy is if he would clean better on his own, without reminders. I don't like having to dictate chores, do my own chores, and then go back and make sure that his chores are complete! Especially because the cleaning checklist is on the fridge with how frequently it should be done and what steps are involved.
